Forth and Clyde Canal

The Edge of the World

The Forth and Clyde Canal is a brief but atmospheric location beside the gig venue where Shay Maloney and Ollie Pietruska return to the tour bus. Its shift from a pretty daylight view to a bleak nighttime setting gives the canal a quiet role in the scene’s contrast between unease and companionship.

Setting and Appearance

The tour bus is parked behind the venue, next to the canal. By day, sunlight dapples the water through the trees, making the spot seem pretty; at night, the water and surroundings appear murky and bleak. The same place thus changes in character with the light, turning from a pleasant view into an unsettling setting.

Role in the Scene

After Ollie asks to call it a night, he and Shay make their way back to the bus, pausing so Ollie can smoke. The darkness around the canal leaves Shay feeling safer with Ollie beside him. The location’s significance lies in that immediate emotional contrast: the bleak surroundings heighten Shay’s unease, while Ollie’s presence offers reassurance.
